Young People Walking with Courage and Hope
On June 19, Giovanni Caccamo and the World Youth Orchestra in concert in aid of the John Paul II Foundation for Youth
The evening concert organized by the John Paul II Foundation for Youth, an instrumental body of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life, which for more than thirty years has supported the realization of the World Youth Days and the activity of the Youth Office of the Dicastery, will be held on June 19 at Villa Lusa, seat of the Portuguese Embassy to the Holy See.
The occasion arose from the hope of the Board of Directors to follow up on the meeting held in October 2022 in the Vatican [link], when the preparatory work for the Lisbon WYD was presented to supporters and institutions.
In this second meeting, moderated by the host of A Sua Immagine Lorena Bianchetti, the Foundation intends to reflect together with invited supporters and friends on what can be concretely – and synergistically – done to promote Catholic youth ministry in the world and to support initiatives that aim to involve young people in concrete projects, in their respective fields of study and work, with an eye towards the next WYD in Seoul 2027.
“To pay homage to our commitment to supporting young people and World Youth Days,” says the President of the Foundation, Attorney Daniele Bruno, “we wanted two young artists from the World Youth Orchestra to open the evening by playing a piece from traditional Portuguese music (remembering Lisbon 2023), a piece from Italian opera (in honor of the upcoming Jubilee of Youth 2025) and a traditional Korean piece (looking towards WYD in Seoul 2027).”
The program of the event – made possible thanks to the kind hospitality of His Excellency Domingos Teixeira de Abreu Fezas Vital, Ambassador of Portugal to the Holy See and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta – includes the presentation of the magazine published by the Foundation, World Youth Day Magazine, renewed in form and content, and the Proceedings of the Conference on Care for Creation, which took place during WYD 2023, in Lisbon [link].
To conclude the evening, the musical performance of Giovanni Caccamo, an internationally recognized Italian singer-songwriter, who will present his project Parola ai giovani, exhibited in various institutional venues, including the Senate of the Italian Republic and also the United Nations Palace in New York, in its international declination with the name Manifesto per il cambiamento – Manifesto for change – Youth and future. It is a competition of ideas, aimed at young people from all over the world to create a cultural manifesto of change, on themes such as peace, inclusion and sustainable development.
